Abstract: In a previous Technical Paper, we introduced our high fiber count 1728f and 3456f cables with Flexible Ribbon technology. In this paper we are reporting our new ultra-high fiber count cable design with 6912f flexible ribbons. The new cable has a structure like 1728f and 3456f cable designs in a RILT (ribbon in loose tube) design with flexible ribbons. Unlike the conventional ribbon that generally maintains its shape with fibers laying parallel on a single plane, this new flexible ribbon freely changes its shape, providing the highest fiber density with reduced attenuation and residual strain in the cable. Furthermore, the cable tested met the applicable requirements for GR-20-CORE and can be easily mass fusion spliced using standard mass fusion splicer technologies.
