Biography
Tim Thiel currently works in the Performance Materials business entity at Covestro as a Marketing Manager. In this role, his focus is on marketing and strategy but he also is helping to achieve the corporate mission of making Covestro truly sustainable & fully circular. As of 2025, he has over 26 years of experience at Covestro.
Tim joined Bayer MaterialScience in 1999 as a cost accountant at the Corporate Headquarters in Pittsburgh, PA. Tim then embarked on a diverse career at Bayer MaterialScience, taking on positions of increasing responsibility in the areas of accounting, controlling, marketing, business development and sustainability.
Throughout his career, Tim has gained extensive experience in driving business strategy, financial and market analysis, sustainability, as well as energy efficiency in the building and construction industry. He spent four years (’08-’11) at the Bayer MaterialScience manufacturing site in Columbus, GA, where he led the marketing efforts for the North American polyester business. After moving back to Pittsburgh in 2012, he became Marketing Manager within the Polyurethane’s Business Unit at Covestro. In this role, he was responsible for Marketing and Business Development in various markets including the Building and Construction Industry and Flexible Foams (bedding and furniture applications).
In addition to his daily responsibilities, Tim plays an active role collaborating with the green building industry. In September of 2016, Thiel joined the Inaugural National 2030 Districts Network Board and has remained a member since. In June of 2017, Thiel joined the GBI National Board which oversees Green Globes Building Certifications in both the United States and Canada. He is currently the Immediate Past Chair of the Board of Directors for 2024.
