High Foam Rate Chemically Foamable Perfluoropolymers for Enhanced Electrical Performance

Speaker Bio: Charles M. Glew, Engineering Manager, Cable Components Group (Connecticut, USA)

Abstract: Through the control of cell structure during the chemical foaming process, it is possible to extrude perfluoropolymers as profiles, insulation, and jackets at high foam rates of 50% or greater with an average cell size of 0.0013” on incumbent manufacturing equipment. Additionally, these materials provide superior electrical performance through the reduction in dielectric constant from 2.1 to 1.6 and significant weight savings, 35-50%, per 1,000ft for profiles and insulation.
